When Life Gives You Lemons

It’s no coincidence that Lemon oil can be found in so many of Young Living’s products. Loved by everyone for its uplifting, citrusy aroma, it now even has its own line of Lushious Lemon products. But today we’re going to dive a little deeper into a few of the lesser talked about “lemon” oils, which in my opinion deserve an equal amount of praise.

LEMON MYRTLE

Myrt, as we’ll call her for short, is a plant native to Australia and is steam distilled from the leaves. It is commonly known as the “queen of lemon herbs”, and for good reason!! Myrt has a chemical component, Citral, that gives it, along with lemons, etc., their scent. While lemon oil usually has 3-10% citral, Myrt has a whopping 92-98% of citral!! SAY WHAT?! So basically we should be adding Lemon Myrtle to ALL of our cleaning products from here on out!! And contrary to what you might think due to its name, this oil is NOT photosensitive. YAY, one less oil to think about when applying topically.

Suggested Uses

  • Diffuse to cleanse and purify the air

  • Add to Thieves Household Cleaner for a lemony zest

  • Pair with YL’s Maximum Strength Acne products which promote clear and blemish-free skin

  • Add to your glow serum or moisturizer to help soothe & cleanse the skin

  • Use as a sweet and uplifting personal fragrance

  • Inhale or apply topically during seasonal changes for respiratory support

JADE LEMON

Native to Taiwan and China, the jade lemon tree is a subspecies of Citrus limon that produces fruit with a soft green color, hence how it got its name. You guys, if you think lemon or lime smells good, you have NO idea until you smell this little green beauty! It is sooo sweet and fruity, pairs well with Neroli or Geranium, and is a great addition to the Capri Blue Volcano Candle Diffuser Blend. This is one of my all time favorite Spring oils and you will have the HAPPY VIBES flowing all day, every day! Where are my Jade Lemon lovers at?!

Suggested Uses

  • Diffuse to create a positive, uplifting environment or to eliminate odors & cleanse the air

  • Add 10–15 drops to Young Living lotions and shampoos for an uplifting aroma.

  • Use 8–10 drops with water in a spray bottle to freshen the air.

  • Add Jade Lemon Vitality to your glass of water to add a fresh twist, to provide cleansing properties, and to support digestive health.*

  • Use Jade Lemon Vitality to your homemade lemonade or your icy summer treats.

  • Combine 3 drops of Jade Lemon with half a capful of Thieves Household Cleaner and 1 cup of white vinegar in the bottom of your dishwasher and run a cycle without soap or dishes whenever your machine smells musty.

*This oil IS photosensitive, so avoid direct sunlight or UV rays for up to 12 hours after applying Jade Lemon

LEMON VERBENA

Fun fact, Lemon Verbena is native to South America but was brought to Europe by the Spanish and Portuguese in the 17th century. Like Myrt, it is steam-distilled from the leaves so it’s not photosensitive, which is important to note because it too has amazing skin cleansing properties. It does contain a higher amount of citral than Lemon, around 30-35% citral, so it has a stronger lemony smell, but it tends to have a more citrus-herbal scent.

Suggested Uses

  • Dilute Lemon Verbena and use it as a natural and pure personal perfume.

  • Diffuse it to purify and refresh the air and create a spa-like atmosphere wherever you are.

  • Inhale it to brighten and uplift your day.

  • Add 2−4 drops to Thieves Household Cleaner for an added lemony, cleansing boost.

  • Pamper your skin with antioxidants and add it to your favorite lotion or moisturizer to cleanse the skin and soothe minor skin irritations
